NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – Finlay Construction has proudly pledged $50,000 in support of Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) Foundation’s Exceptional Community, Exceptional Care campaign. This family-owned and operated business, based in Baltimore, Ontario, has made giving to NHH Foundation a priority over their years in operation and this is their largest commitment to date – demonstrating both an understanding of the significant needs currently facing the hospital and the Finlay’s desire to help.

“Finlay Construction and the Finlay family have been long-time supporters of our hospital,” shares Rhonda Cunningham, NHH Foundation CEO. “When we have asked for their help, they have answered – they gave a leadership level gift towards the building of NHH, have made numerous donations and been business partners over the years since, and when we came to them with our current campaign, they stepped up to offer their support once again. We are very grateful.”

What started as a business with one single-axle dump truck, founded in 1951 by Gerald Finlay, quickly grew, to incorporate Gerald’s wife, Margery, and their children: Dwight, Glenn, George, and Mary Jane. Today, it has flourished into an operation run by the four Finlay children, that employs roughly 25 people, maintains a foundation of strong work ethic and quality customer service, and supports its community.

Sitting down with members of the Finlay family, their friendly humbleness shines through. They’re quick to point out how much the community’s support of their business has helped them succeed over the years and how this history feeds into their desire to give back – to support the community that has supported them.

“We hope our contribution will help NHH get the equipment it needs to continue to care for our community and to attract healthcare workers to the hospital,” shares George Finlay. “Having a well-equipped local hospital is important to us and beneficial for everyone – including our families, friends, and employees.”

The Finlays also shared their appreciation for the hospital Foundation and volunteer community leaders who have taken on the role of raising $25 million to help fund key priorities at NHH, acknowledging this is not an easy task. As the largest campaign in Northumberland County’s history, a dedicated Campaign Cabinet is working to advance fundraising efforts under the leadership of Campaign Chair, Hank Vandermeer, and volunteers like Tom and Teresa Behan, who have long known the Finlay family.

“I’m not surprised the Finlays leaned in to support our Hospital,” shares Tom Behan. “I’ve known them to be a caring and community-minded family and their support of our campaign is yet another example of this.”
