Our Mission

The Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation is a dedicated team of enthusiastic volunteers and staff who are passionately committed to improving health care and the quality of life in our communities.

Our mission is to foster the philanthropic support to benefit the patients of the Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH).

We do this by:

  • Building and managing a comprehensive fund development program designed to secure more gift revenue, more cost effectively each fiscal year
  • Identifying, attracting and retaining more donors through effective cultivation and stewardship
  • Building NHH healthcare service capabilities by engaging in strategic and imaginative grant-making
  • Spreading our messages in thoughtful and inspiring ways to both external and internal stakeholders by all means possible, through collaborative communications and marketing efforts
  • Attracting committed volunteers, practicing effective governance and demonstrating accountability in all of our activities


Message from Tyler Hathway, NHH Foundation Board Chair

Our community is in the midst of very challenging times for our healthcare system. Northumberland is unique in that we have potential for tremendous growth, and at the same time face the challenges of an aging population.

Like many, our family has travelled to the east, to the west and to the north for care at hospitals surrounding us. We have been involved with NHHF for over a decade and in that time have witnessed the incredible generosity of our community, and how we have all worked to establish our hospital as an outstanding care facility, right here close to home. I know that we always expect the best of our hospital and as a community we must continue to help make it the best. It’s a simple equation really; the best healthcare comes from the best doctors, nurses, technologists, and support staff, who in turn need the best equipment.

When I learned that our hospital’s equipment is funded solely through philanthropy I was shocked. We hear and read the news stories describing billions of dollars in health care spending, so how could this not include the equipment that is so crucial to saving and improving lives? I want the best healthcare for my family and friends, which is why we support the NHHF’s efforts to raise funds for capital equipment through donations and volunteer efforts. Our hospital needs to continue to strive to be better everyday and we must strive to provide the best equipment, so together we can “Make Care Better”.

There is no better way to do this but to participate and enjoy the numerous events held by the NHHF through the year. My time thus far on the board has shown me the incredible efforts put forth by the NHHF staff, board and countless volunteers which always result in fun and exciting ways for people to come together for a great cause.

The foundation has set lofty fundraising goals for the next few years as much equipment is needing to be replaced, and we want to continue to provide new technologies for the hospital to be able to excel. I am honoured to serve as the NHHF Board chair for the next 2 years and am looking forward to helping our community full of volunteers and philanthropists surpass these goals for the benefit of us all.
