LET’S TALK ABOUT IT - MOVIES FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Let’s Talk About It: Movies for Mental Health is a free event for the Northumberland community.  The goal is to localize the Bell Let’s Talk movement by engaging Northumberland citizens in a conversation about mental health and the stigma surrounding it.

The NHH Foundation has selected two films for the movie night. “The Little Prince”- an ambitious young mother imposes a life plan for her daughter that leaves no time for leisure, all for her to enroll in the prestigious Werth Academy. The little girl, however, becomes distracted by her elderly retired aviator neighbour, who tells her the story of the "The Little Prince", claiming that he encountered him in the Sahara after crash-landing there. The two become friends and venture on a great adventure that teaches about life’s pressures, growing up too fast and lessons of compassion and friendship. The Little Prince will be screened at 4pm.
At 7pm, the audience will enjoy “Murphy’s Law”, a 2017 documentary film sensation that follows the story of Megan Murphy’s grief and broken heart after the loss of her parents.  Meg’s film is a story about grief and resilience.  How we are called to save ourselves when the sadness creeps in.  How it’s okay to give ourselves permission to feel what we feel, but it’s not okay to give up.  Meg herself will be attendance and introduce her movie.
